Lend your time and talents in areas such as event planning, marketing, fundraising and more! Board members meet monthly and additional time is given as needed.

If you are not interested in being a full board member, but still want to be a part of the Friends of AuSSLC, we also have need of talented individuals who would like to help on a more limited basis on committees!

Board Member Opportunity

Board Members of the Friends of Austin State Supported Living Center (AuSSLC) work to fulfill the mission of providing life-enriching and personal growth opportunities for the residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities who call the center home. Specific roles and responsibilities include:
 
  • Supporting the needs of the residents of the AuSSLC and developing strategic plans to meet those needs.
  • Evaluating existing programs and developing procedures for ongoing evaluation.
  • Assisting in establishing goals, objectives, action plans, policies, and procedures for the Friends of AuSSLC.
  • Supporting the Friends of AuSSLC sponsored events (Fall Festival and Tree of Lights, etc.) and especially through fundraising endeavors.
  • Monitoring the Friends of AuSSLC operations, expenditures, and volunteer participation in programs to assure the most effective and economical use of people’s power and financial resources.
  • Maintaining a close working relationship with the AuSSLC Community Relations department director, staff, and volunteers.
 
Member qualities:
  • Passion for the Friends of AuSSLC mission
  • Ability to contribute time and talent to meetings, events, and activities
  • Connections to the local community and ability to reach out to both current sponsors and prospective sponsors
  • Desire to play a very active role with a local nonprofit supporting people with disabilities
  • Experience with nonprofit or charitable organizations is helpful but not required
 

Time commitment:

  • Average 5 hours/month (with additional time during Friends-sponsored events).
 

Attendance requirements:

  • 75% of non-mandatory events; 100% of mandatory events
  • 75% of committee meetings, held monthly until near a Friends-sponsored event in which case the meetings will increase based on need.
